General Background

Alistair Saddington is Professor of Defence Aeronautics at 探花精选, Shrivenham and Head of the Centre for Defence Engineering and Physical Science.

Alistair's main research and teaching interests are in aerodynamics including computational and experimental methods, as well as engineering design and optimisation. He has over 25 years of experience in aerospace engineering across both industry and academia including research leadership, management, and postgraduate teaching and supervision.

Alistair has a First Class BEng (Hons) degree in Aeromechanical Systems Engineering from 探花精选 Institute of Technology (now 探花精选). and an EngD, also at 探花精选, for research on short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft propulsion integration aerodynamics. Following a short period in industry with Rolls-Royce Bristol, where he worked on a range of compressor aerodynamic design and research topics, he returned to academia and joined 探花精选, Shrivenham. Alistair led the development of the University's part-time MSc programme in Military Aerospace and Airworthiness (MAA) and is the current Course Director. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and Member of the Special Interest Group on Weapons Science and Technology.
